SHOPPING CART SAFETY TIPS FOR PARENTS

The CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) reports that thousands of children are treated in US hospital emergency rooms each year for shopping cart related injuries.

Falls account for the majority of these injuries and are among the leading causes of head injuries to young children. The most common injury resulted from children falling or climbing out of a shopping cart because the restraint was not being used.
Always buckle children in the cart seat and stay with them at all times.

DO
- Always use safety belts to restrain children in shopping carts seats
- Stay with your child at all times
- Inform store personnel of damaged, broken, soiled or missing belt parts

DON'T
- Let your child stand in the shopping cart
- Let another child, even an older one, push or steer the shopping cart
- Let children ride in or on the basket portion of the cart
- Let children climb or hang on the shopping cart
